Volunteer Spring Training at Horicon Refuge
Midwest Region, April 1, 2004
Print Friendly Version
Seventeen people attended the volunteer spring training at Horicon Refuge on April 1.

These volunteers were especially interested in visitor services positions including rolling readers, rangers, visitor center staff, field trip assistants and special event assistants. They were provided with job descriptions, volunteer agreements and applications, uniforms, materials, training and a tour of the office/visitor center. As a result, six individuals will cover shifts on five dates in the visitor center during special events; 14 volunteer rangers will greet visitors at the floating boardwalk on five weekends; 12 volunteers will help youth learn how to fish during the Fishing Expedition event; eight volunteers will assist with eight field trip dates; and 10 volunteers are available to fill in where needed for field trips.

Volunteers in attendance came from nearby communities as well as Milwaukee, Madison and Fort Atkinson. Additional volunteers who could not attend the training are still calling to sign up to help. Their help is instrumental in providing visitor services in the busy spring season.
