Pendills Creek Makes New Friends
Midwest Region, April 2, 2004
Print Friendly Version
The by-laws have been written and the final paperwork has been sent in to the regional office for signatures. The Friends of the Pendills Creek National Fish Hatchery are almost ready to start planning activities.

The group was founded by five local individuals who want to provide community support for the hatchery. They are hoping that with some of the events they are eager to sponsor, word will get out about what they want to accomplish and their membership will grow.

There are several activities on the list for this year, with the largest being the open house/dedication of the new broodstock building at the Sullivan Creek NFH tentatively scheduled for August 7. The Friends Group will be co-sponsoring the event and assisting the hatchery staff by answering questions and handing out information.

The members are also interested in fixing up the public beach area on Lake Superior that is owned by the hatchery. Most importantly, they want to replace the access bridge that was washed out during a storm last November. The group would also like to make some nature trails with interpretive signs, upgrade the parking area, make a wheelchair accessible boardwalk, and improve fishing access.

They are also looking forward to working with other groups such as the Soo Area Sportsmen's League. The Friends of Pendills Creek are already planning to help them out with their annual Kid's Fishing Day on July 31st.

So, they?re off and running with big plans ahead, and we hope the community responds with an abundance of memberships, because there's a lot of work ahead!
