Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge staff have made a concerted effort to reduce trespass by riders of all terrain vehicles and dirt bikes over the past two years. More than 60 citations have been issued to violators during that time. On March 14, refuge officers from Great Swamp and John Heinz refuges and the refuges of the Long Island, New York, complex visited Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge to help with ATV interdiction. Four refuge officers were involved in the operation, including two in plain clothes and two in uniform.

Citations and warnings were issued for travel off designated roadways, trespass on a national wildlife refuge and failure to display registration.
