Viroqua High School Students Learn About Scholarship Opportunites
Midwest Region, January 20, 2004
Print Friendly Version
Three natural resource classes at the Viroqua (Wisconsin) Area High Schools were presented with a scholarship opportunity, and a chance to learn more about careers in the Fish and Wildlife Service this January.

The students were encouraged to apply for the Hutton Junior Biology Scholarship Program offered through the American Fisheries Society to increase diversity in the fisheries biology field. The Genoa National Fish Hatchery is serving as a "mentor" station this summer, providing an eight-week opportunity to high school students in grades 10-12 find out more about a fisheries career, and earning a $3,000 college scholarship at the same time.

The students also received notice about the station's ongoing Youth Conservation Corps opportunity coming up this summer. This summer youth program, is an 8 week full time job, where the enrollee learns good working skills, assists the station in its mission, and brings in some extra pocket money to boot.
