Other EPA P2 Programs
Pollution Prevention is key to national environmental protection activities. A number of EPA Offices other than OPPT have programs implementing P2 as listed below.
- Air Pollution Prevention and Control (APPCD)
APPCD within the National Risk Management Research Laboratory, conducts research, develops and demonstrates air pollution prevention and control technologies for key industries, electric power plants, incinerators, indoor environments and sources of greenhouse gases. - Clean Energy
EPA's Clean Energy Programs are working with state policy makers, electric and gas utilities, energy customers, and other key stakeholders to identify, design and implement clean energy policy and technology solutions; we are delivering important environmental and economic benefits. - Climate Protection Partnerships
EPA works with businesses, organizations, governments, and consumers to reduce emissions of the greenhouse gases that contribute to global climate change by promoting greater use of energy efficient and other cost-effective technologies. - Compliance Incentives & Auditing - Pollution Prevention
Compliance Incentives are a set pf policies and programs that eliminate, reduce or waive penalties under certain conditions for business, industry, and government facilities which voluntarily discover, promptly disclose, and expeditiously correct environmental problems. - Mixed Waste Pollution Prevention
- Municipal Solid Waste - Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle
Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle includes information on MSW source reduction, recycling, and composting and provides information on household hazardous waste. - National Waste Minimization Program
The National Waste Minimization Program supports efforts that promote a more sustainable society, reduce the amounts of waste generated, and lower the toxicity and persistence of those wastes that are, of necessity, generated. - Pollution Prevention and Toxics Tribal Network
PA's Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics (OPPT) has established a Tribal program to better communicate our programs and activities with Native American Indian tribes, and to build more effective partnerships with Native American tribes in protecting and safeguarding the environment. - Resource Conservation Challenge
The Resource Conservation Challenge (RCC) is a national effort to conserve natural resources and energy by managing materials more efficiently. The goals of the RCC are to: Prevent pollution and promote reuse and recycling; Reduce priority and toxic chemicals in products and waste; and Conserve energy and materials. - Smart Growth
Smart growth is development that serves the economy, the community, and the environment. It changes the terms of the development debate away from the traditional growth/no growth question to "how and where should new development be accommodated." - Software for Environmental Awareness - Pollution Prevention
This program outlines the relevant environmental legislation and addresses P2 in industry, agriculture, energy, government, and consumer sectors. Examples include more efficient manufacturing processes, alternative products and procedures that generate less or more benign end products, and ways to reduce the amount of raw materials used. - Sustainable Technology
To advance the understanding, development and application of technologies and methods of prevention, removal and control of environmental risks to human health and ecology. - WasteWise
WasteWise is a free, voluntary, EPA program through which organizations eliminate costly municipal solid waste and select industrial wastes, benefiting their bottom line and the environment. WasteWise is a flexible program that allows partners to design their own waste reduction programs tailored to their needs. - Water - Pollution Prevention
