Our
Nation's natural resources
are an integral part of what makes our country unique and beautiful.
Wildlife and plants are often our first signs of Spring...the
annual call of sandhill cranes coming into Nebraska's Platte
River...the massing of shorebirds and horseshoe crabs on the
New Jersey shore...the rush of salmon surging up the Kenai River
in Alaska....and the pink mountain
laurel on Appalachian slopes. The history of the many peoples
who inhabit this country is a story of our connection to the
land, the water, and the wildlife and plants -- for food, drinking water,
irrigation, economics, recreation and spiritual renewal. When
we conserve habitats and species, we also conserve our history,
our present and our future. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is seeking to work
with landowners, communities, businesses, developers, organizations,
governments, and the media-- to sustain our natural resource heritage
and our cultural heritage--for wildlife and for people.
On this site, we will post Service news and media features that illustrate
innovative ways citizens, communities and organizations are coming together
to conserve and sustain those resources.
"Only by working together can we conserve that
which we cherish." Dale
