VPP Programs Koch Pipeline Becomes the Fourth Site in the Oil and Gas Industry to Earn OSHA VPP Star Recognition

Background:

Koch Pipeline, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Koch Industries, Inc., owns and operates approximately 4,000 miles of pipeline in several states, which transports crude oil, refined products, and natural gas liquids. The Koch Pipeline site in Corpus Christi, Texas, connects these pipelines and refined products systems to other markets in San Antonio, Austin, Bastrop, Waco, and Dallas/Fort Worth. After many safety and health achievements throughout the years, the company and its employees decided to begin the process of achieving recognition in OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) - one of the oil and gas industry's highest safety marks.

Success Impact:

Joining the Ranks of VPP – Koch Pipeline Becomes Fourth in Industry to Achieve VPP Star Status

Koch’s dedication to achieving exemplary safety and health practices and procedures was evident in management's commitment and employees' increased involvement during VPP’s approval process. Through the development of an effective safety and health management system (SHMS) the site achieved an injury and illness rate 81 percent below the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) national average for the oil and gas industry.
“Koch Pipeline Southern Operating Group has demonstrated excellence in effective safety and health management.”

Dean W. McDaniel

The Koch site achieved VPP Star status in October 2007. It has become the fourth pipeline operating group to receive OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star designation for workplace safety and health. It joins the ranks of ExxonMobil, PP&L Interstate Energy Co., and J.R. Simplot Conda Pump Station.
