Fenty, Reinoso Announce Reuse Opportunities for District School Buildings

Mayor Adrian M. Fenty and Deputy Mayor for Education Victor Reinoso today announced reuse plans for District of Columbia school buildings. The Office of Property Management, in collaboration with the Office of Planning and the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education will issue Requests for Expression of Interest (RFEI) to gauge the level of interest from the private and non-profit sectors in utilizing the available school buildings for programs and services that help to support community and District-wide needs. The administration will issue Requests for Expression of Interest (RFEI) to community partners, developers, charter schools, and others interested in developing the buildings for reuse and development. The District will retain ownership and will seek to lease the school buildings.

“We hope to identify a reuse option for these public properties that allows up to both preserve and revitalize our communities,” said Mayor Fenty.

For the following buildings, the District will issue Requests for Expression of Interest:

•    Clark Elementary School
•    Rudolph Elementary School
•    J.F. Cook Elementary School
•    M.M. Washington High School
•    Taft Center
•    Backus Middle School (portion not used by DMV)
•    Randle Highlands Elementary School (vacant building)
•    Grimke Elementary School
