RE: Authorization Increases

The Office of Student Financial Assistance has executed a Y2K mitigation initiative for the Federal Pell Grant Program by increasing 1999-2000 school authorizations up to the amount of their GAPS drawdown for the 1998-1999 award year through February 1999. Over 4,000 schools received this increase which occurred on December 17 and was processed through GAPS. Those INCREASES ARE AVAILABLE FOR SCHOOLS TO DRAWDOWN. The update was posted to the schools GAPS website. This action should provide schools with sufficient funding authority in case of Y2K system related problems. Unfortunately, the file that creates the Electronic Statement of Account (ESOA) extract encountered a system problem and the ESOA's HAVE NOT BEEN generated nor is the Y2K increase visible on the RFMS Web Site. We apologize for this delay and anticipate having this corrected by the week of December 27, 1999.
