RE: Change to CPS Processing of Earned Income Credit (EIC)
Values
DATE: September 1, 1999

The Department of Education issued a change to the Central Processing System (CPS) relating to the handling of 1999-2000 Student's (and Spouse's) Earned Income Credit (EIC), which is SAR/ISIR field #44, and the Parents' Earned Income Credit (EIC), which is SAR/ISIR field #67. This change was implemented on August 24, 1999.

The CPS assumes values for the EIC based on the reported EIC, the number of family members, and marital status. Prior to August 24, these assumptions could not be removed by either an override or verifying the data was correct. The change now allows the assumption to be suppressed when a correction is made to verify or re-key the original reported EIC amounts.
