PublicationDate: 5/20/99 Summary: Correction to Last Week's Tip of the Week Author: CPS - Central Processing System (CPS) Posted on May 20, 1999 TO: All Destination Points FROM: CPS Customer Service RE: Correction to Last Week's Tip of the Week > We wish to correct a typographical error in last week's tip regarding running the Repair and Compact utilities. > In the instructions for running compact in Access 97, we stated the following: > "Once your repair is finished, go to Tools UtilitiesDatabase. You will again need to locate your EDExpress database location, then click Compact. You will see a screen labeled 'Compact Database From' with your Expres90.mdb icon highlighted. Click Compact. The next screen is labeled 'Compact Database Into,' with 'db1.mdb' populating the File Name field. Change 'db1.mdb' to 'express90.mdb' and click Save. Click Yes to the prompt 'The file...express90.mdb already exists...Do you want to replace the existing file?' This will initiate the compact process." Please replace all references to "express90.mdb" in the above paragraph with "expres90.mdb," which is the correct name for the 1999-2000 EDExpress database. This is a key program file and should be backed up on a regular basis, daily if possible. If you followed the instructions as originally provided in the tip, it is possible you have created a duplicate copy of your software database called Express90.mdb. This file would be stored in the same directory as your valid EDExpress database (Expres90.mdb), which would not have been successfully compacted. Delete the Express90.mdb (NOT the Expres90.mdb) if you wish, then complete the compact instructions in the tip again --- be sure to select "Expres90.mdb" as the destination for the "Compact Database Into" screen. This will allow the Access 97 compact process to run on the correct database. The database name is provided correctly elsewhere in the tip. We apologize for this error.
