Summary: Processing Status: Update #20
Author: OPE - Office of the Assistant Secretary for OPE

TO : Financial Aid Administrators
FROM : Betsy Hicks
Deputy Assistant Secretary for
Student Financial Aid Programs
SUBJECT: 1997-98 Processing Status: Update # 20

I am pleased to report that we have processed over 5.7 million
forms so far and that both MDEs are currently maintaining their
contractual turnaround times for both the 1996-97 and 1997-98
processing cycles. In addition, the number of FAFSA Express
applications processed for 1997-98 continues to exceed the volume
processed for 1996-97.

Please note that we will discontinue these weekly updates with this
report as we are comfortably beyond the period of time each year
during which we receive the greatest number of applications to
process.

I wish to personally thank you for your assistance and cooperation
over these last five months and to assure you that we will continue
to have as our primary objective providing you the very best
service that we can.
