On April 7, 2009, the National Center for Research Resources (NCRR) at NIH announced the addition of the University of Cincinnati to the Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) Consortium. The goal of the CTSA program is to support 60 sites at a total annual cost of $500 million by FY 2012. Funding support for the CTSAs is provided by the NIH Common Fund and NCRR. The annual Congressional appropriation process determines the amount of funds available for the CTSA program, and the amount of funds available differs each fiscal year. Subsequently, funding may be reprogrammed to the CTSA program in a given fiscal year as NCRR ends some of its clinical research initiatives, and funds are shifted between the Common Fund initiatives for programmatic reasons. The annual cost of a CTSA ranges between $4 million to $23 million, depending on each site's previous funding for NIH clinical research resources. Consequently, the number of CTSAs funded within each annual budget depends not only on the results of the formal peer review process and the total annual budget, including reprogrammed funds, but also the size of the awards. View CTSA funding guidelines for more detailed information. The five-year funding amount for the new CTSA site is provided below. The funding totals include recommended future year total cost support and are subject to the availability of funds and satisfactory progress. Note: The five-year funding totals for previously awarded CTSAs are available on the 2008 Grants page, 2007 Grants page and the 2006 Grants page.
