In the Spotlight

Upper Snake Field Office Participates in "Leave No Trace" Booth at Earth Day Celebration:  On April 25, BLM participated with many agencies and companies in the area to celebrate Mother Earth at the annual Earth Day event held at Tautphaus Park in Idaho Falls.  Staff and volunteers lead over 1,000 guests through two mock campsites, one demonstrating model "Leave No Trace" practices and the other less desirable practices.

Upper Snake Field Office Teaches Kindergarteners about Trees:  In preparation for Arbor Day, the Upper Snake Field Office Education Specialist taught the Iona Kindergarten class all about trees.  Students learned how trees grew and return oxygen to the environment. They also discovered all of the items in their classroom that were made from trees. The most fun was when students went to work in the "Tree Factory", an activity where each student acts out an element of a tree's physiology and chants the specific function that their tree part performs.

Upper Snake Field Office Educates Cub Scouts:  The Upper Snake Field Office Education Specialist recently led 30 Cub Scouts in learning how and pledging to "Leave No Trace" while using public lands. Teams of scouts constructed posters of their ideal campsites.
