Hong Kong Education and Career Expo 2009

The U.S. Commercial Service in Hong Kong has announced its support of “Education & Careers Expo 2009.”  We encourage U.S. education institutions to participate in the U.S. Pavilion at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Center, February 19-22, 2009.  This event presents an excellent opportunity to recruit students from Hong Kong.

According to the Hong Kong Education Department, nearly 13,000 Hong Kong students studied overseas in 2007.  The U.S. Consulate General issued over 7,000 student visas to Hong Kong students in 2007. Education is of great public interest and concern in Hong Kong, but the number of available places is not adequate to accommodate university applicants.  As a result, many students and their parents seek opportunities overseas for their higher education.

The Education and Careers Expo is an annual event jointly organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development council and the Labor Department.  It is an international forum for educational institutions, commercial organizations, government bodies and professional associations to disseminate up-to-date information on education and career opportunities to students and the working public of Hong Kong.  In 2007, 498 exhibitors attracted 190,000 visitors over 4 days.  Every year, the event receives strong media attention and the Labor Department coordinates with Hong Kong's secondary schools in recruiting local students to the event.  Cost for a booth is US$3,510 for a standard 9 sqm.

NEW!  After the Expo, the U.S. Commercial Service office in Hong Kong will take exhibiting institution representatives on a one-day visit to Guangzhou, where they will meet with a Visa Officer from the U.S. Consulate in Guangzhou, followed by a visit to three American Schools, and an evening reception with agents from Southern China.
