Outreach and Communication

  • Events:

The group scheduled two different train-the-trainer sessions one for June and one for September. The June training seminar had to be cancelled due to illness and the September seminar was cancelled due to low enrollment. This train-the-trainer session is to provide information about different organizations who provide services to the Hispanic community to other groups and organizations who work with Hispanics in Iowa.

  • Products

No new products were developed, however, 200 OSHA publications and Wage and Hour publications were provided to the Mexican Consulate and they have taken those publications to mobile consulates across the state during this evaluation period.

The group proposed the development of a video that could run in a continuous loop at the consulate with information on OSHA and Wage and Hour. The idea was forwarded to the National Office to request assistance to ensure that the video was professional quality. This request remains in the National Office and no activity has taken place.

IV. Results

The alliance has brought together not only the signatory groups but other groups who interact with the Hispanic population in Iowa. The group continues to work to develop a train-the-trainer session where the signatory groups will train other groups on the services they offer. The goal of this training is to educate organizations in Iowa that interact with the Hispanic community which will allow for better referrals to the correct group or Agency.

Type of Activity (Conference, Training, Print and Electronic Distribution, etc.) Number of Individuals Reached or Trained
Print distribution at mobile consulates for OSHA and Wage and Hour Information 200
Total 200

IV. Upcoming Milestones

Due to extended absences of some members of the group activity was limited during this year. We hope to renew the Alliance in 2009 and have more involvement.

Information has been taken from the OSHA website and placed into Safety Information Sheets. These sheets were translated into Spanish and the Consulate can hand out to individuals visiting the mobile Consulate.
