December 10, 2007

I. Alliance Background

Date Signed

Originally signed October 10, 2003 and renewed December 6, 2006

Overview

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and The Centro de Apoyo, Recursos Y Oportunidades (CLARO) recognize the value of establishing a collaborative relationship to foster safer and more healthful American workplaces. OSHA and the CLARO formed an Alliance to provide CLARO members and others with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help protect them employees’ health and safety, particularly in reducing and preventing occupational injury and illness to Hispanic workers.

Activities

OSHA and CLARO have worked together to achieve the following training and education goals:
  • Deliver training and education programs on employees’ occupational safety and health rights and responsibilities; and safety and health issues faced by Hispanic employees.
  • Deliver or arrange for the delivery of informational courses about hazards in industries, such as meat processing, where those clients whom CLARO serves are commonly employed.
OSHA and CLARO have worked together to achieve the following outreach and communication goals:
  • Developed and disseminated information, through print and electronic media, including electronic assistance tools and links from OSHA's site, including information provided in English and Spanish languages.
    • CLARO continued to maintain phone contact with the KCAO Area Director as resource for answering questions from their constituents.
    • Phone numbers were provided so members could contact the Kansas City Area Office if they had questions or safety complaints.
II. Time period covered by this report

December 6, 2006 – December 6, 2007

III. Alliance Action Plans

CLARO’s Executive Director and Founder, Ms. Carrie Tyler, relocated to Columbia, MO, two months after renewing this Alliance. In her new position she attempted to establish another Alliance, however, her associates were not interested in pursuing the matter at this time. This Alliance is concluded as of December 6, 2007.
