HOUSTON AREA OFFICES AND THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF
SAFETY ENGINEERS – GULF COAST CHAPTER

Overview:

OSHA and the American Society of Safety Engineers – Gulf Coast Chapter ia an Alliance to provide businesses in the Houston area with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help them protect employees’ health and safety, particularly in reducing and preventing exposure to occupational safety and health hazards during hurricane response and clean –up activities.

II. Implementation Team Meetings:

The Houston North and Houston South Area Office’s Compliance Assistance Specialists attended several planning meetings and exchanged e-mails and phone calls to plan and coordinate the hurricane preparation outreach CD.

  • Products – CD developed which included OSHA, CDC, ASSE, and other Government documents pertaining to hurricane planning, response, and clean-up.
Outreach and Communication
  • Events – The CD was launched at an Alliance signing ceremony with the ASSE Gulf Coast Chapter membership attended by a diverse group representing nearly 75 companies in the Houston area.

IV. Results

Over 100 CDs were distributed at the ASSE membership meeting. Copies of the CDs were mailed to over 60 Chamber of Commerce’s in the Southeast Texas area. A mentioned in the OSHA Quicktakes newsletter resulted in request from over 1,000 other companies and individuals throughout the U.S and overseas which were sent out by the ASSE National Chapter.
