Alliance Overview
This Alliance addresses safety and health related hazards in UBC’s retail, manufacturing, and
construction entities; including but not limited to, material handling issues resulting in
musculoskeletal disorders; Hispanic training; and falls, trips, and slips. In developing this
Alliance, OSHA and UBC recognize that OSHA’s State Plan and Consultation Project partners are an
integral part of the OSHA national effort.

III. Activities and Products
Evaluation Period.
July 11, 2006 to September 13, 2007
Alliance Activity.
- The Region wide Alliance between Region V and United Building Centers developed a consistent
formal training presentation for the managers and first line supervisors of UBC resulting in over
280 managers being trained in five different States throughout the Region.

- Consultants from the various Consultation Programs, Federal and State Plan Compliance Officers,
and the Region V Ergonomist all participated in the development and/or presentations of the training
program.

IV. Results
- A training program was developed as an abbreviated 10 hour type of training session to address
safety and health related hazards in UBC’s retail, manufacturing, and construction entities;
including but not limited to, material handling issues resulting in musculoskeletal disorders;
Hispanic training; and falls, trips, and slips.
- This training focused on the first line supervisor and manager positions within the UBC
Corporation providing training on their responsibilities as the employer for the protection of the
employees in their workplaces.

V. Upcoming Milestones
- One additional supervisor/manager training session is scheduled in the State
of Michigan for spring of 2008.
- The Implementation Team is scheduled to hold their next meeting in October 2007 to brainstorm and
establish the Alliance FY-08 Goals.
