The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and The West Sayville Junior Fire
Department recognize the value of establishing a collaborative relationship to foster safer and more
healthful American workplaces. OSHA and The West Sayville Junior Fire Department hereby form an
Alliance to provide OSHA and The West Sayville Junior Fire Department members and others with safety
information, particularly in reducing and preventing exposure to fire and smoke hazards, as well
addressing hazards associated with the rescue service life safety issues, such as, falls, explosive
atmospheres, confined spaces, and pathogens. In developing this Alliance, OSHA and The West Sayville
Junior Fire Department recognize that OSHA’s State Plan and Consultation Project partners are an
integral part of the OSHA national effort.
OSHA and The West Sayville Junior Fire Department will work together to achieve the following
training and education goals:
- Work with OSHA to provide expertise to develop training and education programs for the junior and
cadet fire service regarding fire and rescue service life safety hazard(s).
- Deliver or arrange for the delivery of fire and rescue service life safety hazard and issues
courses, such as, confined space, electrical, pathogens, fall protection, explosive atmospheres, and
hazardous materials.
- Work with OSHA to develop workplace safety and health curricula on the fire service to encourage
junior and cadet fire and rescue services familiarity and compliance with OSHA and other applicable
safety standards at an awareness level.
OSHA and The West Sayville Junior Fire Department will work together to achieve the following
outreach and communication goals:
- Develop and disseminate information through print and electronic media, including electronic
assistance tools and links from OSHA’s and West Sayville Junior Fire Department Web sites.
- Speak, exhibit, or appear at junior cadet fire service conferences, local meetings, or other
junior fire service events sponsored by West Sayville Junior Fire Department.
- Share information on best practices with other junior emergency service organizations and
publicize the results through outreach by West Sayville Junior Fire Department and through OSHA or
West Sayville Junior Fire Department developed training programs and materials.
- Work with other Alliance participants on specific issues and projects on junior fire and rescue
organization issues that are addressed and developed through the Alliance Program.
- Encourage other junior fire and rescue services to build relationships with OSHA’s Regional and
Area Offices
- To address health and safety issues of concern to them and build a greater awareness of the role
of OSHA regulations.
- Other standards that promote safety at an emergency.
OSHA and The West Sayville Junior Fire Department will work together to achieve the
following goals related to promoting the national dialogue on workplace safety and health:
- Raise others’ awareness of and demonstrate their own commitment to workplace safety and health
whenever The West Sayville Junior Fire Department leaders address groups.
- Develop and disseminate case studies illustrating the business value of safety and health and
publicize results.
- Convene or participate in forums, round table discussions, or stakeholder meetings on fire and
rescue service life safety hazards and addressing fire and rescue service life safety issues to help
forge innovative solutions in the workplace or to provide input on safety and health issues.
OSHA’s Alliance provide parties an opportunity to participate in a voluntary cooperative
relationship with OSHA for purposes such as training and education , outreach and communication and
promoting a national dialogue on workplace safety and health. These Alliances have proved to be
valuable tools for both OSHA and its Alliance participants. By entering into an Alliance with a
party, OSHA is not endorsing any of that party’s products or services; nor does the agency enter
into an Alliance with the purpose of promoting a particular party’s products or services.
An implementation team made up of representatives of both organizations will meet to develop a plan
of action, determine working procedures, and identify the roles and responsibilities of the
participants. In addition, they will meet at least three times per year to track and share
information on activities and results in achieving the goals of the Alliance.
This agreement will remain in effect for two years. Either signatory may terminate it for any reason
at any time, provided they give 30 days written notice. This agreement may be modified at any time
with the concurrence of both signatories.
