Information On, and Directions for Using, Downloadable Files
We have tried to make all downloadable files accessible to everyone. If you have any difficulties accessing these files, please e-mail us at quality@epa.gov or call (202) 564-6830. The following types of files are discussed here:GUIDANCE AND OTHER DOCUMENTS

Adobe Acrobat Files* (PDF):
Most of the documents available for downloading are in Adobe Acrobat Portable
Document Format (PDF). See EPA's
PDF page to learn more about PDF, and for a link to the free Acrobat
Reader.

Corel WordPerfect Files* (WPD):
- Microsoft Word Files* (DOC):
Some documents are provided in Microsoft Word format so that you may tailor them to your specific application. Microsoft Word files can be opened in most word processing packages.
Some of the documents are provided in WordPerfect format (for example, checklists) so that you may tailor these documents to your specific application. Corel WordPerfect files can be opened in most word processing packages
SOFTWARE
- Unzipping Software: The software (e.g., DEFT) is distributed using a self-extracting zip file. To unzip the software, save the file to your hard drive and then click on the "Start" button on the Windows Taskbar. Then select "Run", enter the name of the file you saved (with its location), and press "OK". This will extract all the files needed to the specified directory.
- Running the Software: Once you have unzipped the software, follow the directions contained in the User's Guide.
- Accessing the User's Guide: A copy of the User's Guide is contained with the software. An additional copy is available directly from our web site. The User's Guides are in Adobe Acrobat* format. See EPA's PDF page to learn more about PDF, and for a link to the free Acrobat Reader.

Unzipping Courses: To unzip a training course, save the file to your hard drive and then click on the "Start" button on the Windows Taskbar. Then select "Run", enter the name of the file you saved (with its location), and press "OK". This will extract all the files needed in a course to the specified directory.

Using the Course Files: The files for each course are in the formats listed below. In most cases the software used to create the file is needed to use the file. However, free viewers are available for the different types of software.
- Corel WordPerfect* files (which end in "wpd") - these files can be opened in most word processing packages;
- HTML files - these files can be opened using any web browser (such as Netscape* or Internet Explorer*);
- Microsoft Word* files (which end in "doc") - these files can be opened in most word processing packages;
- Lotus Freelance* files (which end in "prz") - if you do not have access to Freelance Graphics, contact the Quality Staff at quality@epa.gov to receive the files in Adobe Acrobat*;
- Microsoft Powerpoint* files (which end in "ppt") - if you do not have access to Microsoft Powerpoint, Microsoft provides a free viewer at www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=048DC840-14E1-467D-8DCA-19D2A8FD7485&displaylang=en; or
- Adobe Acrobat* files (which end in "pdf")
