The Monitor National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council will hold a meeting on May 19, 2009 at the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum in Hatteras, N.C.  Youth Working Group Search
The Monitor National Marine Sanctuary is seeking youth between the ages of 14-17, who live in the North Carolina or Virginia area, to participate in a Youth Working Group.
The purpose of the Youth Working Group is to advise the Monitor NMS Advisory Council and sanctuary superintendent on issues pertaining to ocean conservation and how young adults view these issues in today's changing world. Through the Youth Working Group, the council seeks to learn how best to convey the message of ocean conservation to the youth of today. The council also seeks to gain a better understanding of how to engage young people to become stewards of our ocean.

 The State of the Sanctuary Report provides an overview of the current status of the Monitor National Marine Sanctuary and discusses the management activities and accomplishments since the sanctuary's designation in January 1975.
Management Plan Review
New challenges and opportunities emerge with time. For this reason,
federal law requires periodic updating of sanctuary management plans. The
Monitor National Marine Sanctuary management plan review will take
place through a community-based process with opportunities for the
public and other government agencies to share their knowledge,
voice their opinions, and directly participate as active stewards
of America's marine sanctuaries.
