February 12, 2009 Contact: Mike Blakeman, (719) 852-6212 BLM Travel Management Plan Takes Next StepMONTE VISTA – The Bureau of Land Management has completed the San Luis Resource Area Travel Management Plan Environmental Assessment. This document analyzes the potential impacts of motorized and non-motorized road, trail and area designations on BLM lands in the San Luis Valley. Substantial public input aided in the development of the final environmental assessment. The BLM also proposes to amend the San Luis Resource Area Resource Management Plan (RMP) to incorporate the travel management decision as described in the EA. The proposed amendment to the RMP is subject to a 30-day protest period beginning with the publication of the legal notice in the Valley Courier (expected on February 12). Following the protest period, the BLM will resolve all protests and then issue a final decision. The travel management plan environmental analysis and the proposed amendment to the RMP may be viewed at any SLV Public Lands Center office or at the following internet address: For more information, contact Mark Swinney, resource advisor, at 719-655-6105. ###
