Summary: G5 Implementation Update #4 – Phase 1 Implemented But New Web Site Experiencing Intermittent Delays

Posted on 12-17-2007

The Department of Education (the Department) has implemented Phase 1 of G5. As previously communicated, G5 is a state-of-the-industry electronic system for grants management and payments and, when fully implemented, will replace the Grant Administration and Payment System (GAPS). At this time, Phase I of G5 replaces the GAPS e-Payments functionality that was used by schools to draw down Campus-Based, Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG), National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant (National SMART Grant), Federal Pell Grant (Pell Grant), and William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) funds.

The new G5 Web site is available for schools to perform regular drawdown business. The URL for this Web site is https://www.g5.gov/. Information about G5 Web site registration, online training, and questions is provided below.

Note: Due to unexpected network connectivity issues, users may be unable to connect to the G5 Web site, may experience slow response time, and/or may have a session time out while using the site. The Department is working to correct these network connectivity issues and restore full, uninterrupted G5 Web site service as expeditiously as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we complete this work.
