Learn more about Pollution Prevention Resource Exchange (P2Rx) -- check out the services offered and your nearest center.
The Pollution Prevention Information Network (PPIN) grants focus on providing P2 information services that: increase awareness of P2 approaches and practices; and support the adoption and implementation of P2 practices. The Request for proposals (RFP) asks for proposals that address: identified audience needs for P2 information and assistance; and measure changes in awareness, knowledge, or adoption of P2 plans and practices. The PPIN competition awards about $800,000 annually to promote quality P2 information services, references and training that is shared nationally. The Regional centers receiving these grants have developed their own organization called the Pollution Prevention Resource Exchange (P2Rx).
The 2009 Request for Proposals (RFP) has been published: This funding opportunity is EPA-HQ-OPPT-09-04 under the Catalogue of Federal Domestic Assistance number 66.708. PPIN background:
In 1994, more than 300 state and local government environmental programs
were queried on the functions of an information network that would best
support their work in providing pollution prevention (P2) technical assistance.
The survey group indicated that a national network should:
- Provide information that is easily accessible and easy to search;
- Collect, synthesize and update technical information; and
- Identify experts and/or other sources of information.
The Pollution Prevention Information network grant program was initiated in 1997 by the EPA to carry out the above goals and lay the groundwork for a seamless national network of easy accessible, high quality P2 information centers that promote waste reduction throughout the U.S. Although much P2 information is available, finding high quality information requires valuable time and resources. Now, the regional P2 information centers make it easy for business, government, and technical assistance providers to quickly access quality P2 information.
These eight regional centers now call themselves the Pollution Prevention Information Exchange or P2Rx. These centers offer a range of services, including information for industry and topic sectors, training, library resources, referrals and research. The centers collect, synthesize, and update technical information; and provide contact information for experts and other sources.
P2Rx is coordinated by one designated regional center. At this time,
the Pollution Prevention Regional Information Center (P2RIC) is acting
