Success Stories

Secure Communities is a mission-centric initiative to increase national security and community safety by identifying, detaining, and removing all removable criminal aliens, beginning with those who pose the greatest known risk to public safety. The map below shows the geographic distribution of just a few of the most dangerous criminal aliens we have identified. The subjects highlighted in this section are a sample of the most dangerous criminal aliens recently identified by Secure Communities.

SC Identifies Criminal Alien Gang Member

ROSLINDALE, MA—March 8, 2009: The Boston Police Department, a Secure Communities partner, booked a criminal alien on a charge of domestic assault and battery. Using biometric identification, the ICE Miami Field Office, assisting the Boston Field Office with a 24 x 7 response capability, identified the subject as a native and citizen of Honduras, who was previously removed from the United States in November, 2006. The subject’s criminal history indicates he is associated with the “Normandies Locos” who are affiliated with the Mara Salvatrucha gang (MS-13). The ICE Boston Field Office has reinstated a previously issued removal order and will execute it upon the completion of subject’s pending criminal proceedings.

SC Identifies Criminal Alien Never Before Encountered

CATAWBA COUNTY, NC—March 6, 2009: The Catawba County Police Department, a Secure Communities partner, booked an illegal alien on a charge of trafficking cocaine. Although the subject had no previous encounters with ICE, the Miami ICE Field Office, which assists the North Carolina Field Office with 24/7 response capability, identified the subject as a Mexican citizen and native who entered the United States without inspection. The ICE North Carolina Field Office has lodged a detainer and the subject will be taken into ICE custody upon disposition of current criminal narcotics trafficking charges.

Convicted Drug Trafficking Criminal Alien Identified by SC Partners

BOSTON, MA—February 17, 2009: The Boston Police Department, a Secure Communities partner, booked a criminal alien on a charge of false statements. Using biometric identification, ICE Phoenix Field Office identified the subject as a Jamaican national, who was previously removed from the United States on July 6, 1999. The subject’s prior criminal history involved a felony drug conviction of trafficking cocaine. ICE has reinstated the previous removal order and will execute it upon the completion of subject’s pending criminal proceedings.

Aggravated Assault Felon and Gang Member Identified by SC Partners

MARICOPA COUNTY, AZ—January 29, 2009: The Mesa Police Department, a Secure Communities partner, encountered a criminal alien while responding to a family dispute incident. Using biometric identification, the ICE Phoenix Field Office was able to identify the subject as a Mexican national who had been deported in December, 2006, after serving more than seven years in the Arizona Department of Corrections. The subject’s lengthy criminal history contains the following convictions: aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, endangerment and gang-related threats and intimidation. Upon further investigation by ICE Phoenix Field Office, the subject admitted to membership in the Los Compitas Mesa gang. The subject faces federal criminal charges for re-entry after removal.

Repeat Narcotics Violator Issued Detainer and Faces Prosecution and Removal

MARICOPA COUNTY, AZ—January 20, 2009: ICE Secure Communities identified a previously removed criminal alien with two convictions for possession with intent to sell cocaine and methamphetamines. The subject is currently detained for multiple felony narcotics violations. ICE has lodged a detainer and the subject faces potential federal prosecution for re-entry after removal.

Convicted Rapist and Known Gang Member Identified by SC Partners

MONTGOMERY, PA—January 13, 2009: Montgomery County Correctional Facility, a Secure Communities Partner, identified a previously removed criminal alien with multiple aliases using biometric identification. The subject’s criminal history includes a conviction for rape of a minor. Upon further investigation by the ICE Philadelphia Field Office, the subject admitted to affiliation with the Sureno13 Gang. The ICE Philadelphia Field Office has lodged a detainer and the subject faces potential federal prosecution for re-entry after removal.

Twice-Removed Serious Offender Identified and Detained

PINAL COUNTY, AZ—January 5, 2009: Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, a Secure Communities Partner, identified a twice removed criminal alien charged with and convicted of multiple serious criminal offenses, including four separate charges of possession of dangerous drugs and paraphernalia, four DUI convictions, and one DWI conviction. After lodging a detainer, ICE removed the subject from the United States on January 16, 2009.

SC Issues Detainer for Criminal Alien with History of Sexual and Violent Arrests

BOSTON, MA—January 3, 2009: ICE Secure Communities identified a criminal alien with multiple convictions for sex-related criminal offenses and violent crimes, including a sexual offense of fondling a child, five assaults, two assaults with a deadly weapon, assaulting a police officer, intimidation, and two family offense convictions. ICE will execute the outstanding order of removal once it assumes custody of the subject.

SC Identifies Alien Convicted of Drug Trafficking

BOSTON, MA—December 23, 2008: The Boston Police Department, a Secure Communities Partner, charged a subject with possession of and intent to sell heroin. Using biometric identification, ICE Boston Field Office identified the subject as a Guyanan national who entered the United States without being inspected by crossing the United States-Canadian border in 1999. The subject was initially encountered by ICE on January 11, 2005, in Dorchester County, MA, after a conviction for possession with intent to sell heroin. The subject was ordered removed but was subsequently released under an order of supervision. A detainer has been lodged and the subject will be taken into ICE custody upon disposition of the current criminal charges. ICE will attempt to execute the existing warrant of deportation.

SC Partners Identify Alien Convicted of Drug and Violent Felonies

BUNCOMBE COUNTY, NC—December 23, 2008: Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office, a Secure Communities Partner, booked a subject for driving while intoxicated and providing police with false identification information. Using biometric identification, ICE North Carolina Field Office, identified the subject as a previously removed criminal alien with multiple felony convictions, including larceny, drugs, and assault. The subject’s immigration and criminal history spans two decades and four states. The ICE North Carolina Field Office has lodged a detainer and the subject faces potential federal prosecution for re-entry after removal.

Previously Removed Criminal Alien Detained and Undergoing Removal

DALLAS COUNTY, TX—December 12, 2008: SC Partner Dallas County Jail and the ICE Dallas Field Office identified a previously removed criminal alien. The subject has previously used false identities and has an extensive criminal history, including DWI, two charges of possession of dangerous drugs, assault causing bodily harm, and retaliation while incarcerated. ICE has assumed custody of the subject and has initiated removal proceedings.

SC Commences Removal of Criminal Alien with Multiple Violent Charges

HARRIS COUNTY, TX—December 1, 2008: ICE Secure Communities Partners Harris County Jail and the Houston Field arrested and charged a subject with assault to a public servant, assault with a deadly weapon, and assault to a family member while using a false identity. ICE has lodged a detainer and removal proceedings have commenced.

Criminal Alien Charged with Domestic Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon

BRIGHTON, MA—November 25, 2008: The Brighton Police Department booked a subject on charges of domestic assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Using biometric identification, ICE Secure Communities identified the subject as a Salvadoran national who entered the United States without being inspected in 2000. The subject’s previous Temporary Protected Status claims have been denied. A detainer was lodged and the subject was released to ICE custody on November 25, 2008.

SC Books Previously Removed Criminal Alien on Assault and Battery Charges

BRIGHTON, MA—November 13, 2008: The Boston Police Department, a Secure Communities partner, booked a subject on felony charges of assault and battery. Using biometric identification, ICE Secure Communities identified the subject as a Brazilian national who was previously removed from the United States in 2005. ICE has reinstated the previous removal order and will execute it upon the completion of the subject’s pending criminal proceedings.

Previously Removed Criminal Alien with 15 Narcotics Violations

BOSTON, MA—November 5, 2008: Boston PD, an ICE SC Partner, identified a previously removed criminal alien who previously used 10 aliases and had 15 arrests by different police departments for possession of heroin and cocaine. The subject is currently in ICE custody awaiting removal.
