EDGAR XFDL Technical Specification (Version 8)Updated as of: March 16, 2009 The EDGAR XFDL Technical Specification (Version 8) provides, to those filers that are interested, a basis for creating XFDL filings without the use of the EDGARLink tool. The expectation is that software developers, working on behalf of filers, will construct software that will generate an XFDL filing that can be successfully parsed by the EDGAR Receipt Server. In support of EDGAR Release 9.15.1, implemented on March 16, 2009, updates were made to the EDGAR XFDL Technical specification primarily to address updates to Submission Template 3. Changes By TemplateA summary of the changes are as follows (please refer to the appendices that appear in the XFDL specification for details): Template 1No Change Template 2No change Template 3
There are two components to the specification. The first is the specification itself, which contains details about the release, general instructions on the templates, general rules about the XFDL file being created, and specific rules on the XFDL nodes containing data elements. It also includes information regarding the content of the appendices and some sample documents. The appendices document gives specific requirements for each form type.
