IMPLEMENTING THE RECOVERY ACT WITH OPENNESS AND ACCOUNTABILITY

The $3 billion in funding allocated for the Department of the Interior in President Obama's economic recovery plan could create thousands of new jobs and stimulate business activity in communities across America. Under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, Interior is making an investment in conserving America's timeless treasures—our stunning natural landscapes, our monuments to liberty, the icons of our culture and heritage—while helping working families and their communities prosper again.

Providing Strong Oversight

To ensure that Interior’s economic recovery investments are meeting the standards that President Obama has outlined, Secretary Salazar established a Recovery Act Task Force within the Department of the Interior and appointed a Senior Advisor for Economic Recovery, Chris Henderson. Henderson and the Task Force will work closely with the Department of the Interior’s Inspector General to ensure that the recovery program is meeting the high standards for accountability, responsibility, and transparency that President Obama has set.

Ensuring Swift, Responsible Implementation

Within the first 100 days of the new Administration, and less than 75 days after passage of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the Department of the Interior has identified and prioritized based on merit $3 billion in projects under the ARRA.
