Fugitive Wanted for Capital Murder Arrested in Winnsboro
JETFTF LogoToday, March 2, 2009 Stanley Renard Tilley was arrested by the United State Marshals Service and the Winnsboro Police Department. A joint investigation by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, United States Marshals Service, Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Texas Department of Public Safety had developed information that Tilley was located in Winnsboro, Wood County, Texas. A person matching the description of Tilley was spotted at the city park of Winnsboro by a Winnsboro PD officer. A Deputy U.S. Marshal responded to the area and positively identified Tilley. Tilley was then arrested by Officers of the Winnsboro PD and the Deputy U.S. Marshal.

Tilley was wanted by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office pursuant to a capital murder warrant issued on October 13, 2008. The warrant stemmed from an incident where Tilley killed another subject during a drug deal gone bad.

Annually, investigations carried out by the U.S. Marshals result in the apprehension of approximately 34,000 federal fugitives. More federal fugitives are arrested by Marshals than all other federal agencies combined.

The Joint East Texas Fugitive Apprehension Task Force is a team comprised of law enforcement officers from 56 law enforcement agencies in the East Texas area. The task force objective is to seek out and arrest federal, state, and local fugitives, mainly those with violent criminal histories to include sex offenders. Last year, U.S. Marshals task forces arrested more than 27,000 state and local fugitives on felony charges.
