U.S. Marshals Arrest Fremont Man Wanted in Mexico for Alleged Rape

Omaha, NE - The U.S. Marshals arrested a Fremont man who was wanted by the Republic of
Mexico for a rape that was committed in 2001. The subject fled to the United States to avoid prosecution by authorities in the state of Jalisco. Mexican authorities requested formal extradition and the Department of Justice Office of International Affairs requested the assistance of the United States Marshals Service in locating the subject. A provisional arrest warrant was issued by the Federal District Court of Nebraska on November 26, 2008.

The U.S. Marshals in Omaha developed information that Martin Alvarez-Landeros was currently
residing in Fremont. With assistance from the Fremont Police Department he was arrested at
approximately 6:15 p.m. yesterday without incident and remains in custody pending extradition to Mexico.

According to John Cleveland, the Acting U.S. Marshal for the District of Nebraska, "This is just another example that if you try to evade capture, we are going to find you. Mr. Alvarez found out that the long arm of the law can find you wherever you try to hide."
