Omaha, NE - The U.S. Marshals arrested a
Fremont man who was wanted by the Republic of
Mexico for a rape that was committed in 2001. The subject fled to the United
States to avoid prosecution by authorities in the state of Jalisco. Mexican
authorities requested formal extradition and the Department of Justice
Office of International Affairs requested the assistance of the United
States Marshals Service in locating the subject. A provisional arrest
warrant was issued by the Federal District Court of Nebraska on November 26,
2008.The U.S. Marshals in Omaha
developed information that Martin Alvarez-Landeros was currently
residing in Fremont. With assistance from the Fremont Police Department he
was arrested at
approximately 6:15 p.m. yesterday without incident and remains in custody
pending extradition to Mexico.
According to John Cleveland, the Acting U.S.
Marshal for the District of Nebraska, "This is just another example that if
you try to evade capture, we are going to find you. Mr. Alvarez found out
that the long arm of the law can find you wherever you try to hide."
