FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FOR INFORMATION CONTACT: September 09, 2008 Matt Hershey, Deputy U.S. Marshal Public Affairs Officer, (602) 920-4841   U.S. Marshals Capture Fugitive Sex Offender   Phoenix, AZ – Early this afternoon the U.S. Marshals led-Child Predator Apprehension Team (CPAT) apprehended fugitive sex offender Brent Baker, 33, in the area of Indian School Rd and 20th St. in Phoenix. In 1997 Baker was convicted in Maricopa County Superior Court for two counts of Molestation of a Minor and served almost eight years in the custody of the Arizona Department of Corrections. In April of this year Baker absconded from probation, at which time a warrant was issued for his arrest. Baker, a level III sex offender, also failed to update his sex offender registration. This morning Deputy U.S. Marshals and Task Force Officers received information that Baker was in a residence in the area of Indian School and 20th St. As officers searched the residence Baker was found hiding in the attic attempting to evade capture. United States Marshal David Gonzales praised the work of Deputies and law enforcement officers adding, “The United States Marshals Service, along with our state and local partners, will continue to use every available resource to locate and arrest sexual predators that try and hide in the Valley.” CPAT Supervisor Tom Henman added, “The Child Predator Apprehension Team was created to specifically target those offenders such as Brent Baker who flee and intentionally fail to update their sex offender registration.” The full-time federal, state, and local agencies that comprise the Arizona WANTED include: U.S. Marshals Service; Immigration and Customs Enforcement; Federal Bureau of Investigation; Arizona Department of Public Safety; Maricopa County Adult Probation Office; Mesa Police Department; Surprise Police Department; Phoenix Police Department; and several part-time state and local law enforcement agencies. The Child Predator Apprehension Team is a dedicated unit of the US Marshals led-Arizona WANTED Fugitive Task Force which specializes in capturing offenders who commit crimes against children. The Arizona WANTED task force has elements in Phoenix, Tucson, Yuma and Flagstaff. The U.S. Marshals Service is the nation’s oldest federal law enforcement agency.
