Shane G. Vaudry, 32, was arrested on May 3, 2007 at the Greyhound bus station after returning to Arizona from North Carolina. Vaudry was wanted by the Benson Police Department for failing to update his sex offender registration and also had an outstanding Tucson Police Department warrant.

Members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force took Vaudry into custody without incident, even though Vaudry was traveling under a false identity and when asked about his identity, gave authorities a fake name.

Vaudry is facing over 10 years in prison if convicted for the sex offender registration violation. The warrant from Tucson Police Department stems from a Failure to Appear on a indecent exposure charge. Vaudry was arrested for masturbating outside of a woman’s window at a residence near midtown. Authorities were able to positively link Vaudry to the scene due to DNA from semen left at the location.

In August, 2006, President George W. Bush signed the Adam Walsh Act which made the United States Marshals Service the lead law enforcement agency responsible for investigating sex offender registration violations. In 2006, U.S. Marshals arrested over 7,300 sex offenders.
