WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, Sharee M. Freeman, Director of the Community Relations Service (CRS), U.S. Department of Justice, will address the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives' (NOBLE) Winter CEO Symposium.
The Winter CEO Symposium is being held from February 14-18, 2002, at the Aladdin Hotel, 3667 South Las Vegas Boulevard, Las Vegas, Nevada.
"Attorney General John Ashcroft stated after September 11 that protection from terrorism has become the number one priority of the U.S. Department of Justice. This represents a major change in the way that the Department operates and will have a major impact on its relationship with state and local law enforcement agencies," said CRS Director Sharee M. Freeman.
"I welcome the opportunity to share the perspective and the expertise of the Community Relations Service on police community relations with top police leaders of NOBLE as they consider the broad based powers of the Federal Government which can be called upon to support our national defense," she said.
Local law enforcement agencies have an obligation to assist in the national defense to prevent terrorism in the United States. Effective police policies and procedures guided by a philosophy of policing that respects civil liberties and personal rights become crucial to protecting the rights of affected communities.
