H1N1 (SWINE) FLU UPDATE:

The BOP has currently implemented Module 1: Surveillance and Infection Control of its Pandemic Flu Plan. Under this module we have increased our infection control practices and our surveillance efforts to detect and track the disease. The BOP Pandemic Flu Plan can be found on the public website by clicking here.

Currently there are no confirmed cases of the 2009 H1N1 (Swine) Flu in the BOP.

Movement of inmates throughout the BOP is not being restricted at this time. Institutions are screening new inmates for symptoms and isolating inmates as needed in accordance with our Pandemic Flu Plan.

Institutions have informed to resume normal visitation beginning the weekend of May 8, 2009. Any exceptions to this would be a decision between the Warden and Regional Director. Institutions are posting notices to visitors informing them that they should not visit, if at anytime in the last 7 days they have had fever plus either cough or sore throat. Family members are still encouraged to contact the institution or check the institution website prior to visiting to determine if there are any restrictions.

The BOP has stockpiled supplies in preparation for a flu outbreak. The BOP Medical Director and Health Services Division staff are working in concert with Regional staff concerning the H1N1 flu and will distribute supplies as necessary.
