Consumer Price Index

April 15, 2009
On a seasonally adjusted basis, the CPI-U decreased 0.1 percent in March after rising 0.4 percent in February. The index for all items less food and energy increased 0.2 percent in March, the same increase as in February. Full text: (HTML) (PDF)

Employment Cost Index

April 30, 2009
Total compensation costs for civilian workers increased 0.3 percent, seasonally adjusted, from December 2008 to March 2009. For the year ended March 2009, compensation costs rose 2.1 percent. The 12-month increase for wages and salaries was 2.2 percent and the benefits increase was 2.0 percent. Full text: (HTML) (PDF)

Employment Situation

April 03, 2009
Nonfarm payroll employment continued to decline sharply in March (-663,000), and the unemployment rate rose from 8.1 to 8.5 percent. Payroll employment has decreased by 3.3 million over the past 5 months. In March, job losses were large and widespread across the major industry sectors. Full text: (HTML) (PDF)

Producer Price Index

April 14, 2009
The Producer Price Index for Finished Goods decreased 1.2 percent in March, seasonally adjusted. This decline followed a 0.1-percent advance in February and a 0.8-percent increase in January. Excluding foods and energy, finished goods prices were unchanged following a 0.2-percent rise in February. Full text: (HTML) (PDF)

Productivity and Costs

March 05, 2009
Productivity declined 0.4 percent in the nonfarm business sector in fourth-quarter 2008, as output fell faster than hours. Unit labor costs increased 5.7 percent. Manufacturing output per hour fell 4.0 percent; unit labor costs increased 14.7 percent. All rates are seasonally adjusted annual rates. Full text: (HTML) (PDF)

Real Earnings

April 15, 2009
Real average weekly earnings were about unchanged in March 2009. A 0.3 percent decrease in average weekly hours was offset by a 0.2 percent increase in average hourly earnings and a 0.1 percent decrease in the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W). U.S. Import and Export Price Indexes

April 09, 2009
The U.S. Import Price Index rose 0.5 percent in March. A 10.5 percent increase in import petroleum prices more than offset a 0.7 percent decline in the price index for nonpetroleum imports. In contrast, export prices fell in March, decreasing 0.6 percent. Full text: (HTML) (PDF)
