Subject: EDExpress Basics - Release of First EDExpress Basics for 2009-2010 Module

Summary: This letter announces Federal Student Aid's release of the first of three online, self-paced learning modules on EDExpress Basics for 2009-2010. The first module covers Global functions and software set up, Application Processing using FAA Access to CPS Online, and data transmission via Edconnect.

Dear Colleague:

We are pleased to announce our release of the first module of EDExpress Basics for 2009-2010, the Web-based training product that teaches users the basic skills needed to access and navigate the 2009-2010 EDExpress and EDconnect software. This module covers Global functions and software set up and Application Processing using FAA Access to CPS Online. Additionally, this module includes training for new users of the EDconnect data transmission software. The module is available on the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) Web site at http://ifap.ed.gov/edexpress/index.htm.

This self-paced training is intended for financial aid office staff with day-to-day responsibilities that involve using the EDExpress software. By using the software in a simulated environment, users will gain an understanding of the fundamental EDExpress and EDconnect functions. As such, this training is a resource for on-the-job training and re-training in the use of EDExpress.

We will release additional EDExpress Basics for 2009-2010 modules in the coming months.

  • The second module on Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG), Federal Pell Grant (Pell Grant), National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant (National SMART Grant), and Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant processing is planned for release in late May 2009.

  • The third module on William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) processing is planned for release in early July 2009.

  • A full version of the training that is compliant with Section 508 of the Americans with Disabilities Act is planned for release in late August 2009.

We will inform the community of the availability of these modules in forthcoming Training Announcements posted on the IFAP Web site.

We look forward to your use of EDExpress Basics for 2009-2010. If you have questions about this Web-based training product, please contact David Bartlett at david.bartlett@ed.gov or Mark Gerhard at mark.gerhard@ed.gov.

Sincerely,

Jana Hernandes
