Instructions

The next few pages contain information on your rights and responsibilities as a graduate/professional student borrower under the Direct PLUS Loan Program. Please take your time and review the information carefully. You may refer back to the tutorial in the future should you have questions about your rights and responsibilities.

To satisfy your online Entrance Counseling requirements, you must complete the tutorial and pass a quiz. The Entrance Counseling tutorial will review basic facts about:
  • Federal Direct PLUS Loans,
  • Managing your educational expenses,
  • Other financial resources to consider that may help pay for your education and
  • Your rights and responsibilities as a borrower.

Helpful hints

  • Check each pop-up link within the text of the site.
  • Close the pop-up box after you read the definition by clicking on the "x".
  • Please review the list of additional counseling resources on the "Additional Resources" page, which can be accessed by using the link found on the top of the Entrance Counseling session pages.

About the quiz

  • You will be required to take a quiz, and then log into the Direct Loan Servicing Web site . You can use either your U.S. Department of Education Personal Identification Number (PIN) or your name, social security number, and date of birth. You should have received your PIN in the U.S. mail after completing your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application and being found eligible for financial aid. You may register for a new or replacement PIN at the U.S. Department of Education PIN Site.
  • You must answer all the questions in order to continue beyond the quiz page. You will need to answer 12 out of the 15 questions correctly. If you do not, you will have the option to take the quiz again.

  • You may also choose to review the site before retaking the quiz. Please note that each time you take the quiz there will be a new set of questions.

  • If you are not able to answer 12 out of the 15 questions correctly after three attempts, you should contact your Financial Aid Administrator to complete your entrance counseling session.
  • Once you have passed the Entrance Counseling quiz, the system will display the quiz results and allow you to either log in with a PIN or enter your student information. The system will then display your Direct PLUS Loan Rights and Responsibilities as a borrower. You should print this page for your records. You may be required to provide a signed copy to the office that provides entrance counseling at your school. Go to the Entrance Counseling Welcome page to retrieve your quiz results and your rights and responsibilities should you need to print additional copies of this information.
