  Uniform Commercial Code (UCC)

This unit serves as the filing officer for many different documents required under the Uniform Commercial Code, the set of laws promulgated for state adoption to govern commercial transactions.  The unit carries out this function under the authority granted to it by Mississippi Code Annotated, section 75-1-101 et seq. and section 75-9-101 et. seq. (1972), as amended.

Administration of UCC filings makes all kinds of commercial transactions possible. Keeping Mississippi's UCC laws current and consistent with those across the country helps give lenders and borrowers the security necessary to do business.

Revised Article Nine of the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) was adopted in Mississippi during the 2001 Regular Legislative Session.  The effective date of Revised Article Nine (hereafter "RA9") is January 1, 2002.  The new law places several new requirements on end users and the Secretary of State’s Office, and customers are encouraged to review materials available on this website in order to become more familiar with the law.
