Per capita income is a measure of the total personal income of an area divided by the resident population of the area. The map uses natural breaks in the distribution to organize the data into groups of common values.

This map shows the per capita income rate in each of the ARC counties. The Appalachian per capita income rates range from $14,885 to $39,605. The Appalachian average is $27,124. The U.S. average is $33,050. For a list of county data by state, see the downloadable Excel file.
