What if I change my last name?

Your other personal information can be updated but it is not possible to change the last name that is attached to your PIN.

• If your last name has changed, you need to apply for a PIN with your new last name by selecting Apply for A PIN from the list on the left side of the PIN Home Page.
• If you need to access records that are attached to your old PIN and former last name, you must still use your old PIN and former last name to do so.

When you apply for a PIN, we verify your Social Security Number, name and date of birth with the Social Security Administration (SSA). If the information you provide does not match with the SSA, you will not be able to receive a PIN. Therefore, you must be sure your new last name is already changed with the SSA before you apply for a new PIN.
