Help with Exit Counseling

Exit Counseling is an educational course that Direct Loan borrowers are required to take upon separating from a Direct Loan school. This course is administered by your school and is also offered as a 20-minute online course on this Web site. Your school will let you know if you need to take exit counseling online or if your school prefers to give you the course in person at the school. If you take the course online we have compiled some suggestions for you that may help you avoid common problems and may help answer questions that may arise.

  • Avoiding the "Warning Page Expired" message. The online course uses time sensitive pages. In some instances, these pages will not allow you to hit the Back button on your web browser. Doing so can cause you to lose your place in the exit counseling course and that will require you to start over. During Exit Counseling only use the navigation buttons provided at the top and bottom of each page.
  • Unable to Print the Borrower's Rights and Responsibilities document. Please refer to the Printing section for directions for printing a framed page.
  • I completed the Exit Counseling Session but didn't print the Borrower's Rights and Responsibilities document before I exited, what can I do? Unfortunately you will need to retake the course and pass the exam to get this document.
