I have a foreign address, how do I get a PIN?

There are two options, you can receive your PIN online or you can have it sent via Postal mail to a foreign address. Receiving your PIN online is recommended as this will be the quickest way to receive your PIN.

To receive your PIN online, simply request one online by selecting the Request a PIN button link located on the left menu bar. Be sure to include a valid email address. You will then receive an email within three business days with instructions on how to receive your PIN online.

A borrower that wants his/her PIN mailed to a foreign address will need to request a PIN directly from the PIN registration Web site and update his/her mailing address accordingly.

PLEASE NOTE: Any personal information that you change at the PIN Registration Web site will NOT have any affect on your Direct Loan mailings.

Steps:

  • Go to the PIN registration Web site at http://pin.ed.gov.
  • You will need to select the Apply for PIN icon on the bottom of the page.
  • Follow the steps outlined and enter the required information requested. Note: For state you will need to select Foreign Country.
