Forum for CIO Community Members Set to Kick Off April 6, 2005

he Professional Development Division (MEP) in GSA’s Office of Technology Strategy will begin a series of quarterly forums for graduates of CIO University and STAR, and other interested parties on April 6, 2005. Dubbed the “Rising CIO Stars Forums” the kickoff will run from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm in GSA’s auditorium. Dr. Ron Ross, Project Leader, FISMA Implementation Project, and Marianne Swanson, Senior Advisor for Information Security Management from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), will enlighten attendees about the latest in IT Security. The interactive session, also supported by the CIO Council’s IT Workforce Committee, will cover FISMA, the new NIST SP 800-53 minimum security controls, and the latest in certification and accreditation. Smart Card Interagency Board (IAB) completes technical analysis on Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD12)

The Government Smart Card Interagency Advisory Board was tasked by NIST to conduct a technical analysis of the proposed Federal Information Processing Standard 201 and Special Publication 800-73 that specify the Federal Identity Credential and Interoperable Smart Card to meet the Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Policy for a Common Identification Standard for Federal Employees and Contractors for access to Federal Buildings and Information Systems. John Moore from GSA Office of Electronic Government (MEI) used Core.gov to conduct a technical analysis and speed up the rewrite of SP 800-73 Special Publication 800-73 – Integrated Circuit Card for Personal Identity Verification. The Core.gov application was used to coordinate the work of 270 Federal Agency officials and Industry Partners across the US to satisfy the aggressive schedule set by the Office of Management and Budget.
