Commission Use of Unexpended 2006 Disaster Formula Funds

Given the recent exciting news about the availability of Recovery Act funds, this note will serve as a reminder that the deadline, April 1, for reallocating unexpended Disaster Formula Funds is fast approaching. Please review the below information and if you have not done so, contact your Program Officer to facilitate the necessary steps to amend your 06’ disaster formula prime.

Pertinent information:

• Commissions must amend their existing ’06 disaster formula prime grants with the specific subgrants they intend to make no later than April 1, 2009;
• Commissions must subgrant all ’06 disaster formula funds (both funds currently unexpended at the prime level and those recovered by the prime from existing subgrants) no later than May 31, 2009;
• After May 31, 2009, commissions will not be able to recover disaster formula funds from subgrantees or re-grant such funds;
• All disaster formula subgrants must have a disaster services focus;
• Subgrants made by the May 31st deadline would have program and budget end dates of no later than September 30, 2011;
• No-cost extensions will not be allowed beyond September 30, 2011;
• All members associated with grants made from these funds must complete their service by September 30, 2011 at the latest (no extensions allowed); and
• The prime grants will expire no later than September 30, 2011.
