JACKSON , Miss. -- Residents and business owners of Holmes and Humphreys counties have been declared eligible for state and federal assistance for damage suffered from Hurricane Katrina, it was announced today by the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Help under the Individual Assistance program includes grants for temporary housing, home repairs and other disaster-related expenses not met by insurance or other aid programs. Low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration will also be available to replace residential and business losses not covered by insurance.

The two counties were declared eligible earlier for public assistance to pay for emergency services and debris removal, and to help repair and rebuild local infrastructure.

Residents and business owners in the designated counties can apply for assistance by calling the toll-free registration number, 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or (TTY) 1-800-462-7585 , or can register on line at www.fema.gov . The registration lines are currently staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
