MOBILE, Ala. -- The Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Alabama Emergency Management Agency (AEMA) announced today the closing of the Atmore Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Escambia County on Friday, Jan. 28 at 6:00 p.m. During the time it was open, 9,718 individuals affected by Hurricane Ivan visited the Atmore DRC receiving assistance with the FEMA application, housing, SBA loans and other disaster-related services.

Applicants in this area may visit other nearby DRCs still operating. They may also call the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) and access the helpline through its voicemail system. Much of the information available at a DRC is also provided through this toll-free service.
Individuals can begin the disaster application process by calling the toll-free registration number, 800-621-FEMA (3362) or 800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing- or speech-impaired. Representatives at the toll-free telephone numbers are available from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (CST), seven days a week until further notice. You can also register online at www.fema.gov.
The deadline to register for FEMA disaster assistance is March 3, 2005.
FEMA prepares the nation for all hazards and effectively manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
