Partnership in Education

The Census Bureau education program, Partners in Education, commonly referred to as the PIE program began in October of 1991 with one school, the Suitland High School. Since October 1991, the partnership has now grown to include Suitland Elementary School, William Beanes Elementary School, Princeton Elementary School, Berkshire Elementary School, Andrew Jackson Middle School and Drew-Freeman Middle School. Additional schools have requested services but our cadre of between four and eight volunteers is insufficient to serve our current partners. The PIE program provides four basic services to the schools, which are: Read Aloud, Tutors, Mentors, and Science Fair Judges/Career Day Speakers.

As part of the Census Bureau’s "Service to Community Initiative," and our Diversity Plan, we strongly encourage all Census Bureau employees to join us in our effort to expand the number of volunteers. We also ask that Census Bureau Managers and Supervisors allow their employees the time to devote to the PIE program.

For more information, please contact the Census Bureau, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Office at 1-800-872-6096 (select option #2), for the PIE program.
