U.S. Census Bureau

Women in the United States

The Census Bureau derives gender-specific data from a number of surveys and the decennial census, and produces many reports that contain data on women.

The Census Bureau recently has established a new data retrieval system, the American FactFinder. American FactFinder provides useful facts and information about communities, local economies, and general social issues. The system will find and retrieve information for specific geographic locations from some of the Census Bureau's largest databases, including the 1997 Economic Census, the American Community Survey, the 1990 Decennial Census, and the Census 2000 Dress Rehearsal. Tabulations can include gender.
