Overview

This seminar:

  • Provides a comprehensive look at the entire spectrum of Census Bureau programs and services and includes hands-on experience in a series of practical exercises. Included are sessions on data programs of other major statistics-producing Federal agencies.
  • Introduces key geographic concepts, geographic areas, map products, and the Census Bureau's Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (TIGER) system. (Digital map database)
  • Describes key demographic concepts and data products from the Census of Population and Housing and related current demographics programs.
  • Provides extensive discussions about concepts and data related to various Census Bureau economic programs, such as business and manufacturing.
  • Demonstrates the breadth of Census Bureau data on the Internet.
  • Explores health, transportation, labor, education and economic data products available from several other Federal Statistical agencies.

Is this course for you?
This workshop is highly recommended for new and seasoned data users such as librarians, media specialist, planners, researchers and others who need the big picture. No special skills are required. For a customized look at Census Bureau data, may we suggest Topical Seminars and Workshops, a topic-oriented seminar that explore the many facets of census data with emphasis on your area of interest. Participants will receive hands-on experience in accessing Census Bureau data on the Internet, using individual computer workstations. Subject matter experts with participants to navigate the Census Bureau's Web site and find relevant data to meet each participants needs.

Agenda:
The sessions will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. and end at 4:30 p.m. each day. Each user will be stationed at a computer with Internet access.

Class Cancellation Policy:
The Census Bureau reserves the right to cancel any course 30 days prior to the scheduled event if registrations do not meet the stated minimums.
(Minimum class size is 10 people).
