Good
training, like firefighting, takes team work. The National
Park Service's Northeast Region Fire Education Specialist
was a member of the instructor cadre for a USDA Forest
Service sponsored Introduction to Incident Information
Course (S-203) earlier this year. Barb Stewart assisted
in planning, taught several units and ran the "command
post" for the live-action incident scenario. The course
coordinator and other instructors were from the Forest
Service.
The class was held in Abingdon, Virginia
and sponsored by the George Washington and Jefferson
National Forests. Students were from the GWJ and other
Forests, the US Fish and Wildlife Service and the Virginia
Department of Forestry. Participants and cadre have
shared information since the course by e-mail, building
on the knowledge shared during the class.
